About Me

Creativity has always been a crucial part of who I am. Whether building fairy houses as a 7 yo, knitting stuffed animals as an 8 yo and then copying Disney characters from our video covers at home - I was always testing and exploring the desire to portray the world in some way.
I would write poetry, the odd short story...and then of course there were hours practicing the piano, listening to jazz...

My grandmother's art studio became a sanctuary, where I could experiment with color and form while listening to the piano concertos of Beethoven and Rachmaninov.

Art and music have been intimate friends for as long as I can remember.

It seemed that music won the tug of war with the decision to study classical music at university. After 7 years and a Master's in Solo Clarinet Performance, I was exhausted. Though the yearning to draw and paint would occasionally wash over me from time to time, I pushed my art dreams to the far distant realms of retirement one day.

Since then, I have been learning to intentionally craft my life while balancing family, kids, homeschool and the gifts of art and music.

It is a precious thing to be able to manage freedom. The freedom to walk the narrow path of BOTH AND. No longer EITHER OR...

No longer just a musician or just an artist, just a homeschool mom or just a business owner.
I am finally embracing my identity in all its glorious, messy fullness. Both an artist, and a musician, both a business owner and present mother.

The Work

Rebecca's art is an expression of bold lines, vibrant color and dynamic brushwork. Her artistic process begins layering, creating textures and marks in acrylic and markers, then moving onto oils to add depth and a richness of hue - in a way that only oils can achieve.

Her digital art collection is a selection of scenes from places lived, from Africa to Europe.

Pen and ink is also a favorite medium of hers, in that there is very little room for fixing marks gone wrong. Rebecca created a collection of 20 different animals rendered in pen on paper, which was later compiled into her first book: Prophetic Impressions of Heaven in You.

What I believe

As image bearers of God, it is part of our DNA to create.
I have noticed in my own life, when I dam up my creativity and the desire to express my ideas - I become chronically dissatisfied and selfish.
My journey as a believer, as a follower of Jesus, Father and Holy Spirit has been one of healing, discovery and adventure. Knowing that I am loved, accepted, and cherished has given me a sure foundation from which I feel empowered to create and take risk.

I don't make art to feel worthy, I don't create value to feel valuable. Rather, my identity is secure in Christ and therefore I am fearless to create BECAUSE I am valuable, worthy. When my performance and production is not directly tied to my sense of identity, I am truly free to make art. I am not afraid to make bad art, yet I am also ready to make great art!
When people experience my art, my hope is that they will remember that they are designed for eternity, that their origins are found in their Creator and that they are dearly loved!

My art becomes an act of worship - an overflow of the love and intimacy I enjoy in God's presence. The veil between heaven and earth thins, and the possibilities are endless!

"Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end." - Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
